Friendship Scarf

Federation Friendship Scarf

On Saturday morning we will gather to begin a scarf for each of us to take home at the end of the weekend.  It can be woven, knit, crocheted, or whatever technique you choose.  This is a good time for us to renew old friendships and cultivate new ones.  If it is not finished, you may continue on the scarf after the hour of time together or choose to take one of the classes offered.  Coordinator for this project is Maryann Olme.

This class is for everyone!

Create a striped scarf by knitting, crocheting or weaving. Bring a neutral color base yarn and a colored yarn to share. You should bring about  8  oz of wool yarn (worsted weight, or about 20 to 24 wraps per inch for hand spun) that you will use as your base color and  6 to 8  one once balls of yarn to “share”. (Prep for the shared yarn can be done Friday night). On Saturday morning we will take turns choosing a stripe for our scarf from the yarns that were brought to share. We will then break up into small groups based on the method you chose.

Please bring the tools of your choice to knit crochet or weave.

Knitting needles should be a circular needle size 9, 10 or 11 with a cable length at least 24 inches long, or what ever you have or can borrow. The scarf is knit from the side.

Crochet Hook size I/9, J/10, K/10 ½, or L/11 will work. This is also worked from the long side.

If you are bringing a table loom or frame loom, the scarf will be 6 to 8 inches wide and best with a size 10 or 12 dent reed. If you are experienced with the technique, warp your loom ahead of time with a dummy warp that you can just tie onto in the class.

We will all get started together and you can continue to work on your own if you picked a fiber technique that you already know, or you can spend the morning with assistance if you are adding a new skill.
